The 18 certificate film was directed and produced by Juan Jose Campanella who also wrote the screenplay together with Eduardo Sacheri. Sacheri had written the original novel upon which the film is based. Its dialogue is in Spanish and the work won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar at the 82nd Academy Awards. Peter Bradshaw's Guardian review described it as 'supremely watchable' which is pretty high praise from him!
