Sonya Tatham and Susan Gregory (art)

by Sonya Tatham
I've blogged about Sonya Tatham before and have chosen to illustrate this post with my favourite of her paintings - Honesty. This month, Art Under Ground is delighted to host a joint exhibition for two artists – Sonya Tatham and Susan Gregory. Susan and Sonya are friends who offer interestingly different takes on painting. Both have been studying art since they were at school.

Susan is captivated by colour and inspired by shape. Largely she paints in watercolour with the occasional foray into acrylic; her paintings are unusual and imaginative. Susan admires artists such as: Van Gogh, Henry Moore, Ivon Hitchens and Philip Hughes. Always at her side wherever she goes is a sketch book; the contents of which provide a visual diary of her travels as well as being works of art in their own right.

Sonya seeks always to capture the essence of her subject matter; whether that be landscape or from life. The South Downs, on the edge of where she lives, excite her with their ever changing atmosphere and light. Her work documents the seasons and her surroundings. To Sonya, the process of painting has a spiritual overlay. Painters she admires include: Gustav Klimt, Franz Marc, Ann Blockley and Cecil Rice.

Under Ground Theatre, Fridays and Saturdays, 6th Dec to 28th Dec, 10:00-16:00.
Free admission.
The art is also on show to patrons during any Under Ground Theatre event.
