The Ripper Files (theatre)

The wonderfully named Rumpus Theatre Company are bringing their own brand of chilling horror to the Devonshire Park Theatre at the beginning of November. The Ripper Files is a new play, an unusual who-dunnit based around the Jack The Ripper story. Described by The Derbyshire Times as "fun but not for the faint-hearted", the Company asks that "Anyone wishing to leave the auditorium during the performance as a consequence of excessive fright or terror is respectfully requested not to do so in the middle of a murder!"

Charles William Lestrange was a newly promoted Detective Inspector in the Metropolitan Police when the THE AUTUMN OF TERROR, as it came to be known, reached its grizzly height in 1888. Now, thirteen years later, and ably assisted by Samuel Edwards, formerly Detective Constable Edwards of H Division, and Samuel Edward’s “close friend” Miss Elsie Fordham, rising star of the music hall stage, ex-Inspector Lestrange is touring the country to rehearse again for our titillation and delight the ghoulish events in Victorian Whitechapel which have been a source of universal fascination since the 1880s.

The Ripper Files will star Jennifer Biddall (Hollyoaks), Mark Homer (Eastenders) and David Gilbrook.
