October's featured Art Under Ground artist is Eastbourne painter and author Philip Brown. The exhibition of his work in the theatre's foyer will celebrate his 88th birthday which I think makes him even older than recent Under Ground artist Albert Parmigiani.
Philip was married to Swedish born artist Gounil Brown whose stained glass art decorates several local venues including the door panel for St George's Catholic Church in Polegate and the roundel in Berwick New Village Hall. After she died in 2007, Philip wrote a book about her life and has also written several art manuals and executed the Millennium Maps for Willingdon and Jevington. Philip works in watercolour, acrylic and pen. He studied at the Slade School, at University College London and in Paris at the Ateliers d’Art Sacre. He has had one man shows in Britain, France, Spain and even Japan and his work can be found in private collections throughout Europe, the Americas and the Far East.
Under Ground Theatre, Fridays and Saturdays 4th to 26th Oct, 10:00-16:00.
