Habit Of Art (theatre)

The Habit Of Art was the then new play by celebrated playwright Alan Bennett (The History Boys, People) in 2009. The National Theatre production of April the 22nd 2010 was broadcast by NTlive in that year and is now being broadcast again as one of the 'encores' to celebrate the National's 50th anniversary.

Directed by Nicholas Hytner (Timon Of Athens, Othello), The Habit Of Art stars the late Richard Griffiths together with Alex Jennings, Frances de la Tour (People), Adrian Scarborough, John Heffernan and Stephen Wright. It explores themes of aging and creativity, especially how it is possible to continue being inspired when all the creative passion is spent.

Benjamin Britten, sailing uncomfortably close to the wind with his new opera, Death in Venice, seeks advice from his former collaborator and friend, W H Auden. During this imagined meeting, their first for twenty-five years, they are observed and interrupted by, amongst others, their future biographer and a young man from the local bus station.

Cineworld, Thu 7th Nov 2013, 19:00.
Tickets £12.78 adults, £ concessions, available online, by calling 0871 200 2000, or in person from the foyer.
