A show title that might seem familiar for today's blog! The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was performed at the Little Theatre in April as part of the Eastbourne Festival. Now a different touring production, which will have two nights at the Royal Hippodrome, is on its way.
Patch Of Blue Theatre are based in London and mainly focus on producing musicals and theatre for children, both touring the work and regularly presenting at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. They are very proud to have received an Musical Theatre Network Award Nomination for 'Best Production of an Established Work' for 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee'. The production stars Darren Day and Niki Evans alongside Arina II, Ross Cobbold, Joshua Dowen, Tom Mackley, Janette McManus, Ellie Mason, Jamie Lee Pike, Will Bradnam and Rhys Owen. Also, four audience members will be invited to join in each production as 'guest spellers' - Bee Warned!
This hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst chronicles the experience of six adolescent outsiders, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. Along the way they learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.
