Donnie Darko (film)

Two classic films are being shown at Hailsham Pavilion on the 7th of September as part of this year's Hailsham Arts Festival. The films have changed from their initial choices and will now be Creature Comforts in the afternoon and Donnie Darko in the evening.

Originally released in 2001, Donnie Darko is one of my favourite films! It is a bizarre science fiction story of 28 days in the life of an American teenager, Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal). Donnie wakes one night and is led from his house by a man in a giant rabbit costume who tells him that the world is going to end in 28 days. Upon returning, Donnie discovers that an aeroplane engine has crashed into his bedroom while he was gone. It all gets a bit weirder from here on in!

The film has an inspired soundtrack including a gorgeous version of Tears For Fears' Mad World. I discovered during researching this post that Donnie Darko was nearly obscured in the straight-to-video void when it was released but fortunately Drew Barrymore's production company Flower Films stepped in.

Hailsham Pavilion, Sat 7th Sep, 19:45.
Tickets £5 adults, £1 children, available online, by calling 01323 841414 or in person at the Box Office.
