Renoir (film)

Another French film is being screened at Hailsham Pavilion towards the end of August although it looks as though this will be a one-night-only affair rather than the three nights of their current French offering, Populaire. Renoir is certified 12A and also has a historical theme. Directed by Gilles Bourdos, it stars Michel Bouquet, Christa Theret and Vincent Rottiers.

Set on the French Riviera in the summer of 1915, Jean Renoir, son of the Impressionist painter, Pierre-Auguste, returns home to convalesce after being wounded in The Great War. At his side is Andrée, a young model who rejuvenates, enchants, and inspires both father and son. The film explores the evolving relationships of the three main characters and also suggests that this period might have been instrumental in Jean Renoir's eventual success as a film director. Renoir is a gentle, slow-moving film which is being praised for its beautiful cinematography.

Hailsham Pavilion, Tue 27th Aug, 19:45.
Tickets £6.50 adults, £5 concessions, available online, by calling 01323 841414 or in person at the Box Office.
