Educating Rita (theatre)

I'm so happy to be publishing three theatrical blog posts right next to each other! When I first started this blog, I had to branch out from my first love, incorporating film, music and art posts purely in order to fill my target of a post a day. But now it seems as if the Eastbourne area is becoming a real theatrical hub with so many different companies bringing their work to town.

The next Talking Scarlet production to make its way to the Devonshire Park is Willy Russell's Educating Rita which will star Brian Capron (Stepping Out, 2009) as Frank and Jennifer Daley as Rita. The play, which is set entirely within Frank's Open University office, is being directed by Philip Stewart (Dead Certain, Murder Weapon)

Brash, straight-talking hairdresser Rita is unhappy with her job and the low expectations of those around her. She wants to know 'everything', and decides to pursue her recently acquired passion for learning by taking an Open University course in English literature. Frank, a failed poet whose cynicism has led him to take solace in the bottle, agrees to tutor her. It’s a relationship that will change both their lives forever.

Wed and Sat matinees, 14:30.
Tickets various prices, available online, by calling 01323 412000, or in person at the Box Office and the Tourist Information Office.
