Mariele Neudecker (artist)

(print of Hercules Missile
graphite-rubbing) 2010-11
German artist Mariele Neudecker will be speaking at the Towner Gallery on the evening of Wednesday the 17th of July. In a two-hour presentation, she will discuss the key moments that have influenced and directed her, giving a fascinating insight into the process of creating her work. The event is being arranged by the wonderful Blue Monkey Network.

Mariele was born in Dusseldorf in 1965 but for the last dozen years has lived and worked in Bristol. Her art includes sculpture, video and installation and I believe the last piece shown in Eastbourne was Sea Of Ice, a enigmatic glass tank filled with murky water obscuring a sunken ship that was part of the Bon Hiver exhibition and is owned by the Towner.

Blue Monkey is an "artist-led membership network" run as a collaboration between Eastbourne's Blue Monkey Studio and the Towner Gallery. The Studio was founded in 2003 as a working space for about eight artists and the Network began in 2011. They hold regular talks and events as well as offering buddying opportunities and support to local artists. Further information and details of how to join are on this page of the Towner website.

Towner Gallery, Wed 17th Jul, 18:00-20:00.
