George and Ira Gershwin's ever popular musical Crazy For You is being produced by the Rattonians for their big Summer show this year. The show opens for a week-and-a-half run at the Congress Theatre from the 24th of July and, judging by the audience numbers at previous shows of theirs I've seen, don't wait too long before booking or you might not get the good seats!
Mostly adapted from the Gershwins' 1930 musical Girl Crazy, Crazy For You includes a few songs nicked from other musicals too and the book was written by Ken Ludwig (Moon Over Buffalo). The then new show won the 1992 Tony Award for Best Musical followed up with the 1993 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical. It is now a regularly performed amateur production, last seen locally I think done by EODS in 2010. The 2013 Rattonians show is being directed by Mark Adams, choreographed by Jan Lynton and the musical director is Carl Greenwood (Fame).
Failed theatre hopeful Bobby Child is sent to Nevada to foreclose on the loss-making Gaiety Theatre there. Local girl Polly Baker determines to thwart him and is unexpectedly aided by his falling in love with her at first sight. Bobby is left with a dilemma - if he closes the theatre down, he will lose the girl of his dreams. Instead he embarks on a plan to save both by putting on a fabulous show.
