The Big Jazz (music)

The Big Jazz at Ardingly College
Trombonist Duncan J Reeks has got together a group of skilled professional jazz and swing musicians who perform together under the umbrella of The Big Jazz. In demand by such varied organisations as David Lloyd, the Redoubt Fortress, Forest Row Jazz Club and Chillisauce Events, they also have regular nights playing at Eastbourne's Cavendish Hotel on the seafront where both hotel guests and non-residents are welcome to go along and listen. The next one starts around 8pm tomorrow and there are another four chances to hear them, including New Year's Eve.

Duncan, who first began playing trombone at the age of 14, is joined by saxophone guru Pete Cornish, trumpeter and horn player Mike Nichols, keyboard player & piano man Dave Barrett, bass player Wayne Windmill and drummer Drew Brook-Mellor. Vocalist Georgie Fellows also sometimes joins the ensemble. She trained at Laine Theatre Arts which is coincidentally the same school as Eastbourne Theatres' Sleeping Beauty this year, Sasha Wareham! The Big Jazz repertoire ranges from jazz standards by Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis and Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, to swing from Count Basie and Duke Ellington, and more contemporary music by the likes of Bill Withers to Amy Winehouse.
