Sleeping Beauty (theatre)

Eastbourne's annual Christmas Pantomime is nearly upon us again and, this year, we can look forward to the traditional favourite, Sleeping Beauty. A world away from the delicate Russian ballet of the same name that will be gracing the Congress at the beginning of December, I am sure we can expect plenty of fun and silliness at the Devonshire Park.

Eastbourne's favourite dame, Martyn Knight, is returning to the Devonshire stage for an amazing ninth consecutive year in the role. Bernie Nolan is bracing herself for your hisses as she will play the evil fairy Carabosse - I discovered that she first performed in Eastbourne 34 years ago in a summer season at the Devonshire with Ronnie Corbett! - and the beautiful Sleeping Beauty will be played by Sasha Wareham.

The evil fairy Carabosse is furious when she does not receive an invite to the Royal Christening. In revenge, she curses the baby Princess Belle to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die, but a good fairy changes the curse so Belle will only fall asleep - but she will sleep for 100 years and can only be awakened by a kiss from a handsome Prince!

Devonshire Park Theatre, Thu 13th Dec to Sun 13th Jan, various times & prices.
Tickets available online, by calling 01323 412000, or in person at the Box Office and the Tourist Information Office.
