More Dickens! But not of the literary sort this time.
There will be a debut performance at the Underground Theatre in December as jazz trumpeter and flugel horn player Andy Dickens visits the venue for the first time. He will be joined by Craig Milverton on piano, Tim Huskisson on clarinet, Brett Neville on bass and Rod Brown on drums.
Born in Birmingham, Andy began playing trumpet at the age of 14 and is mostly a self-taught musician. He has now been playing jazz for over 25 years and tours extensively in the UK, across Europe and the Middle East. His performances blend a mix of styles from New Orleans to Miles Davis, via ballads and popular standards, with a large part of the work focusing on the pre-bop era. Comparisons have been drawn with Roy Eldridge, Lips Page and Clark Terry. Previous Underground performer Alan Barnes described his sextet as "a swinging and eclectic band".
