Creative Cow is the same theatre company that brought Born In The Gardens to the Underground Theatre in May. They are returning to Eastbourne, this time to the Devonshire Park Theatre, in October with a production of Irish playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan's 18th century comic masterpiece, The Rivals.
The Rivals is a day in the lives of a group of socialites who are 'taking the waters' in Bath. The play mocks the pretentiousness of fashionable society in the late 1700s, their obsession with status and desire for social improvement - not so different to today then! Sheridan created extraordinary and timeless comic characters including the word-mangling Mrs Malaprop, her niece Lydia Languish, the handsome Captain Jack, and his father, Sir Anthony Absolute. The play is famous for its sharp dialogue where gossip and misunderstandings lead to confusion, duels, madness and mayhem.
