Grease is returning to Eastbourne's Congress Theatre towards the end of August. Danny will be played by Danny Bayne, the winner of ITV's Grease Is The Word, and Sandy will be played by Carina Gillespie (Buddy Holly Story).
The musical originally premiered in New York in 1972 and the US tour of that year featured a 17 year old John Travolta as Doody, the nerdy kid. When the show first opened in London, Danny was played by an unknown actor named Richard Gere!
Danny and Sandy meet while on holiday, but never expect to see each other again. But while they are telling their High School friends about their holiday romance, they do just that. Sandy is the new girl at Danny's school. The only problem though is that he has a cool 'bad boy' image while she, to put it mildly, is a bit of a frump. However, the Pink Ladies will come to her rescue and give her the confidence to walk out in the infamous black catsuit. Thereby proving that appearance is everything and the best way to get your man is to look great in skintight lycra!
