Old Hat are a disparate group of jazz musicians all of whom hail from different parts of the UK. They came together while they were all studying at Trinity College of Music in London and discovered a shared passion for vintage jazz. The group includes recent graduates of both Trinity College and the Royal Academy of Music, Yamaha Jazz scholarship recipients, and National Youth Jazz Orchestra alumni.
Their repertoire is focussed on jazz standards from the 1920s and 1930s from such greats as Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, Earl Hines and Jimmie Noone. You can hear their versions of songs such as "Up A Lazy River" and "Limehouse Blues" on their website. Old Hat say that what grabs them about this music is the "beautiful melodies, group improvisation and rapturous rhythm".
Old Hat will be performing for the last Saturday morning Coffee Morning slot of June at the Underground theatre. The band line-up will (probably) be Lizy Exell on drums and Chris Eldred on piano, James Kitchman on guitar and Louis Thomas on bass, William Scott on saxophone and clarinet, Mike Soper on trumpet and Adam Tyas on trombone.
Underground Theatre, Saturday 30th Jun, 10:00 - 12:00.
