Liane Carroll Quartet (music)

Liane Carroll is a nationally famous jazz musician and is also a local girl having been brought up in Hastings where she still lives. She began performing in the town, aged fifteen, as a singer and a pianist. She has toured with Gerry Rafferty, Jerry Donahue and Long John Baldry, has headlined at Ronnie Scott's and is a regular performer at Chelsea's 606 Club. She has a smoky, soulful voice and is a passionate performer.

Her most recent album, 'Up And Down' won Jazz Album of the Year at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards in May this year. Previously she has been awarded Best Female Jazz Vocalist at the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Awards in 2007, as well as winning a double of Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Jazz Performer at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2005.

Liane will be coming to Eastbourne to perform at the Underground Theatre with her quartet which comprises husband Roger Carey (bass), Russell Field (drums) and James McMillan (trumpet). They have a wide repertoire which encompasses tender love songs and powerful rocking blues numbers. The YouTube video below is from the Brecon Jazz Festival in 2007 and was originally broadcast on BBC4. It shows Liane and her band playing the beautiful Dublin Morning and you can also find videos of them doing a wonderful version of Picture In A Frame by Tom Waits as well as Caravan by Duke Ellington.

Underground Theatre, Friday 20th July, 20:00.
