Trishna (film)

If you missed Trishna in Hailsham in May, we are getting another chance to see it at Eastbourne Curzon on the 17th October 2012.
Curzon Cinema, Wed 17th Oct, 20:00. Adult ticket £6.50, concessions £4.50.

A third potentially interesting film at Hailsham Pavilion in May is Trishna, a contemporary retelling of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles, which has been relocated to Rajasthan.

Trishna (Freida Pinto - Slumdog Millionaire) meets a wealthy young British businessman Jay Singh (Riz Ahmed - Four Lions) who has come to India to work in his father's hotel business. After an accident destroys her father's Jeep, Trishna goes to work for Jay and they fall in love. However, despite their mutual attraction, the couple cannot escape the conflicting pressures of a rural society which is changing rapidly through industrialisation, urbanisation and education.

The film has received mixed reviews with most seeming to love its look and beautiful cinematography but being much less enthusiastic about Michael Winterbottom's direction.

Certificate 15.
Hailsham Pavilion, 19:45 on Tuesday the 15th May and at 14:15 on Wednesday the 16th May.
